An executive briefing's
goals are to establish clearly the business case for managing diversity and clarify executives' roles in furthering the diversity agenda throughout the company. We see an executive-level diversity briefing session as the beginning of a change management initiative. |

| Before the briefing session
our senior people interview all participants to record their understanding of the importance of diversity management for their business goals, their level of commitment to diversity leadership, and the obstacles they foresee moving forward. Aggregate data from these interviews permit us to report back our estimate of what will be required for a successful initiative. Interviews also allow us to tailor the program to this particular executive team. Some teams are very familiar with demographic and cultural changes – in these cases we simply allude to the facts of workforce change and move to other topics. Other teams are already highly committed to diversity management – for these we emphasize key shared messages and executive diversity management skills. In all cases we begin where the executive team is now to fulfill the program's objectives. The length of an executive briefing depends on the results of the interviews, as well as the team's willingness and ability to hold subsequent sessions. We have held successful briefings from one-half to two days in length. For more information call The FutureWork Institute at (718) 832-8625. |
