Organization Assessment

The first step in ensuring that diversity initiatives are well grounded and
contributing to business results is to ask employees what areas in the
corporate culture are barriers to their full commitment.

We begin each project with a series of senior manager interviews to gauge
leadership’s understanding of and commitment to diversity. Then we invite
a sample of employees at all levels to attend focus groups. The FutureWork
Institute has conducted hundreds of focus groups with employees to
determine their concerns and get their recommendations for change.

The FutureWork Institute focus groups are unique. Groups reflect significant
portions of the workforce population and members are all from the same level
or EEO category. They are led by consultants—trained researchers—who
themselves reflect the makeup of each group, thereby ensuring a comfort
level and ease in discussions.

All focus groups reports are rolled up and analyzed for important themes.
These are compared to results of the senior manager interviews and a report
with recommendations is delivered.

Organizational assessments set the baseline against which progress can be
measured. They pinpoint those areas where companies’ initiatives will receive
the biggest returns. And, they offer a clear channel to management for
employees’ issues and concerns.
